Writing Contest Tips

This June and July, I've been busy reading poems and stories as a volunteer screener for a writing contest. I learned a lot from the experience, and share my findings in this article: Leave comments at The Review Review (a great resource for writers.)

Sara - this blog is so full of good links, thank you for that. But I am writing because I just finished American Fuji and was so entertained and moved by it that I wanted to thank you. It's a wonderful book, story, characters, writing, everything. I'm married to a Japanese and we go to Japan often. I'm studying the language (have a good tutor - I live in Hawaii)and so I have enough exposure to know that these people and this place/culture are truthfully drawn. And you're so funny! Wonderful. Thank you for the entrancing read. I was sorry to finish it. It's one of those books that adopt you - you become part of the family.
All the best,

Alice, thank you for taking the time to comment. So happy you enjoyed and connected to AMERICAN FUJI! Oddly, it really is much easier to learn Japanese outside of Japan. Such a complicated language, highly inflected, with all the status markers. Best, Sara
